Challenging Currents reflects resilience, growth, and the choice to move beyond familiar boundaries. The koi swim against flowing currents, symbolizing persistence and the courage to pursue one’s own direction despite resistance and uncertainty.

The work combines painting and sculptural elements through the use of acrylic, resin, lime plaster, skeletal wire, and recycled carton. Layered resin creates a wet water effect, partially submerging the koi and enhancing depth and movement within the composition. Raised three-dimensional forms emerge from the surface, blurring the line between painting and relief sculpture. Contrasts between rough textures and translucent passages reinforce the tension between obstacles and forward motion.
