This hand-carved marble sculpture explores the relationship between touch, light, and memory. Though modest in scale, measuring only four inches in each dimension, the swirling haptic form invites intimate viewing and rewards close observation. Delicate in appearance yet enduring in material, the work balances movement and stillness, fragility and strength.

Resting on a glass shelf, the sculpture casts shadows that become an extension of the carved form. As light shifts and viewers change position, these shadows transform, creating a second and evolving presence beneath the stone. The work therefore exists both as a physical object and as an ephemeral experience shaped by perception.

Marble embodies permanence, weight, and endurance. The shadow is transient, dependent on light, time, and the movement of the observer. Together they suggest the relationship between what remains and what fades, between physical existence and memory.

In *Carving Shadows*, the sculpture extends beyond its material boundaries. Through the interaction of stone, glass, light, and viewer, the work invites reflection on presence, absence, and the traces that endure long after a moment has passed.
