The Hat Series (2) - Mushroom
The Hat Series consists of three paintings inspired by endangered species and the often-overlooked wonders of the natural world.
The idea emerged while teaching one of my youngest students amongst a class of adults. Her youthful confidence and timeless presence inspired the figures, who are dressed in fashions reminiscent of the early 1900s. The hats themselves become the protagonists of each work, taking the form of a Wasp, a Mammoth Moth, and a Mushroom.
While separated by species, scale, and time, each subject celebrates the beauty and significance of all living things. The series invites us to reflect on what we have learned over the past century and to consider whether we can look beyond hierarchy and recognise the value inherent in every form of life.
At its heart, The Hat Series is a quiet reminder that beauty, wonder, and essence exist in all beings, regardless of their size or significance in our eyes.
