Earthbound
This painting was inspired by time spent immersed in nature during a period of ill health. Sitting in a flowing mountain river, warmed by the sun and surrounded by trees, I was reminded of the restorative power of the natural world. A walk up Mount Buffalo, despite my uncertainty, became part of that renewal.
The experience revealed that restoration was not found in any one element alone, but through a relationship with earth, water, air, movement, and light. The roots anchoring the figure are not simply decorative; they are the story. Rather than depicting someone healed by nature, Earthbound speaks to the remembrance that we are nature itself—rooted, connected, and nourished by the living world that sustains us.
