Birth – Chaos
Aglaia Perraki's vertical art installation offers a profound visual meditation on cosmogony and the interdependence of cosmic forces. Through the physical presence of her materials, the artist bridges the formless and the tangible, dissolving the linear flow of time into an eternal Now.
On the floor, Chaos functions as the living matrix that coexists simultaneously with Birth, which unfolds vertically on the wall. At the center of Chaos, the ancient Chinese ideogram 發 (fā) embodies the explosive release of energy—the precise moment when a drawn bow releases its arrow. This primordial force connects organically and simultaneously with the vertical unfolding of Birth, where life acquires structure, form, and temporal existence. Perraki's visual language draws upon sacred geometry, Western astrology, and classical mythology, while her forms are rendered with a reverent precision that moves between Byzantine iconography and the clarity of the Renaissance.
The two works are physically connected by hinges, forming a single installation that opens like a book. This organic union creates an experiential passage of revelation, inviting the viewer to read a visual narrative or pass through a symbolic cosmic gateway.
Positioning the viewer at the threshold between earth and sky, the installation becomes a space of perpetual cosmic renewal, where Chaos and Birth are revealed as inseparable aspects of the same reality. Looking at the two works, past and future dissolve into one another. Chaos already contains Birth, while Birth continuously nourishes the vitality of Chaos. They exist as two simultaneous forces within one unified Now, inviting the viewer to experience the universe as an indivisible whole.
