ARTIST STATEMENTAglaia Perraki–Xenaki grew up in Chania, Crete, where Byzantine traditions, Venetian architecture, and the wild Cretan landscape converge on multiple levels—a process visible in reality and profoundly felt in her creative pursuits. She shaped her expressive direction at the Fine Arts Department of the University of Crete and maintains a deep connection with history, philosophy, and Mediterranean energy, elements that form an integral part of her artistic dimension.Through her work, she creates worlds where the image reveals the invisible dynamics of existence, the fragility and strength of the human soul, as well as our relationship with time, memory, and transformation. Each creation functions as a mirror of the inner world, where small details conceal deep secrets and the visible connects organically with the invisible. Her visual language draws from a deep symbolic reservoir that includes classical mythology, spiritual geometry, and archetypal human experience. Although rendered with almost devotional precision, reminiscent of both Byzantine iconography and the clarity of the Renaissance, her forms, landscapes, and compositional elements explore complex emotional and philosophical states. Her art invites the viewer into a transformative experience, where the personal and the universal coexist in disarming harmony.
