“Mabuhay Haribon”

Inspired by the Philippine Eagle, or Haribon (“King Bird”), this low bas-relief work combines painting and sculpture to honor one of the world's rarest raptors. Sculpted lime-plaster feathers and a cementitious beak extend beyond a painted frame, creating the illusion of the eagle breaking free from its confines.
The title references Mabuhay, a Philippine Eagle bred in captivity, while also conveying a hopeful message: Long Live the King Bird. The work symbolizes resilience, freedom, and the urgent need to protect this enduring icon of Philippine natural heritage.
