A Murder Most Foul; under the sun

This painting marks the unfolding of history as theater. Conceived as staged Americana, it assembles fragments of Sibbitt’s American memories – carnival banners, presidential mourning, and children fleeing a napalm attack – into a single theatrical ground. Borrowing its title from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the work invokes the idea of corruption revealed, of a crime that reverberates. Here assassination is not depicted as an isolated act, but as an echo – replayed across decades of televised grief and public trauma. Within Much Ado About Nothing, each painting operates as a stage. Together, they examine the uneasy proximity between innocence, theater, and violence.
