Looks Like Some Turbulence Ahead

Here I reimagine an airplane cabin as a stage for collective delusion and historical collapse. Suspended at 35,000 feet over the South Pacific, the painting assembles an impossible cast of cultural figures - Frida Kahlo, Van Gogh, Warhol, Elvis, the Wicked Witch, and Michelangelo’s David - gathered mid-flight as though traveling to a tropical afterlife and seemingly caught in a time warp. The flight attendant - Medusa - presides over the scene, serving drinks with calm and kindness. Overhead, the aircraft’s ceiling has been torn away, exposing an apocalyptic orange sky - yet no one seems to be aware of their impending doom. A tattooed traveler pages through an in-flight magazine featuring Amelia Earhart and the caption Welcome to the South Seas - a message of foreboding. The painting oscillates between satire and lament - an allegory of our dreams of progress, fame, and flight. Laced with surrealist humor, my work invites viewers to confront the absurd theater of history itself - where art, myth, and mortality share the same row number.
