This painting is a reflection on the passing of my mother who passed at 94. I am rowing her as we move across troubled waters, carrying us out toward the open sea as signs of transformation gather in the surrounding landscape. The painting frames loss as a shared passage, holding light and darkness together without resolving what waits beyond the horizon and where personal grief opens onto collective meaning, echoing the idea that no passage – however intimate – is taken alone. She was a loving and devoted mother. From my series: “A Most Ordinary Apocalypse”.
