Still There Was Pudding and a Tree to Trim grew from one of my favorite Christmas childhood memories - my parents driving us down Tampa’s Christmas Card Lane, where enormous illuminated Christmas scenes seemed magical to us. In the painting, I return to that sense of wonder, but allow something darker to enter. Christmas carries on - the pudding, the tree, the familiar rituals - while an approaching tornado bears down. I’m interested in our very human instincts to continue with the ordinary even when the extraordinary threatens to overwhelm us. Perhaps it is resilience. Perhaps denial. Either way, the storm is coming. Still, there is pudding... and a tree to trim.
