Ananda KARABO is a Los Angeles-based contemporary painter who translates the "noise" of the human psyche into vast, celestial-scale landscapes. Rooted in the spontaneity of Abstract Expressionism, her work serves as a profound meditation on mental health, multicultural identity, and the frantic pulse of urban life. By framing these internal struggles as a form of "internal cosmology," Karabo creates spaces of recognition that validate the tumultuous journey of embracing the unknown. Karabo’s visual language is defined by a visceral command of texture and a rhythmic interplay of light and shadow. Working in a potent fusion of acrylic, alcohol ink, and oil pastel, she treats the canvas as a site where order and chaos collide. Her technique is physically demanding—ranging from aggressive impasto that builds "craters" of three-dimensional density to grattage, where she scrapes back layers of pigment to reveal a hidden history beneath the surface. Each piece pulses with an energy that suggests the birth of a star within the friction of modern existence. Based in Southern California, Karabo’s work has been exhibited at dnj Gallery (Santa Monica), Woodward Contemporary (San Diego), and HMVC Gallery New York. In 2026, her work will be featured in the Upcycling Exhibition at the Tubac Center of the Arts and the 12th issue of Novum Artis Magazine. A dedicated advocate for the healing power of art, Karabo’s work is currently on display at the Marilyn Hilton MS Achievement Center at UCLA Health.
