Benet Dalmau Alsina (Barcelona, 1978) is a self-taught visual artist whose practice centres on oil painting. After more than two decades working as an architectural visualiser, he has developed a distinctive sensitivity to light, texture, and perspective—elements that have become fundamental to his artistic language. His work explores the relationship between urban environments, architecture, and the subtle presence of nature within contemporary landscapes. Drawing inspiration from photographs he takes himself, Dalmau transforms overlooked fragments of the city into paintings that move between realism and abstraction, documentation and personal interpretation. Although his compositions are rooted in architectural forms, much of the work is painted freehand, without rulers or measuring tools. This approach introduces a subtle tension between structure and gesture, precision and imperfection, allowing a more human and organic presence to emerge within rigid geometries. Living with ADHD, dyslexia, and colour blindness has significantly influenced his visual language, leading to a restrained palette and a heightened sensitivity to atmosphere, rhythm, and spatial tension. Rather than focusing on literal representation, his paintings seek to evoke the emotional and sensory experience of inhabiting contemporary spaces. Dalmau has received recognition in several national and international competitions and exhibitions. He was awarded First Prize for Landscape Painting at Figurativas 2023 and selected again for Figurativas 2025 at the MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art) in Barcelona. He has also been a finalist for the BBA Artist Prize (Berlin), the Torres García Painting Prize – Ciutat de Mataró, and the Rafael Zabaleta International Painting Prize (Jaén), among others. His work has also been selected for Emerging Landscape Painting Today Online by Messums London and for the London Art Biennale 2025, where he received an exhibition award. His paintings invite slow contemplation, creating spaces of silence and reflection that explore the fragile balance between the built environment and the natural world.
