Italy, 1986
My name is Chiara Garulli, and I live in the Marche region, constantly (and acrobatically) balancing science, teaching, creativity, and life.
For years, I was deeply in love with biology—complete with a PhD, research papers, and time spent studying cancer cells. Eventually, though, I realized that the silence of the lab felt too quiet. I felt far more useful in the lively chaos of a classroom. So, I became a high school science teacher. Today, I translate complex science into simple concepts (without cheating too much!) and train other teachers, because ideas are meant to be shared and multiplied.
Yet, underneath it all, a seed was dreaming. A part of me that was bursting with life when I was a child had been put on hold while I built my independence: my creative side, made of lines, colors, and light.
Today, that seed has decided it’s time to bloom. I’ve reclaimed my space by studying Printmaking and Illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata. I’ve discovered that the science thoughts blends beautifully with the slow ritual of etching and the magic of storytelling.
To nourish this new path, I completed both the Entry Level and Advanced illustration courses at Ars in Fabula, and to my delight, my work was selected for the international illustration competition Scarpetta d’Oro.
This is me today: a science person who found her ink again.
