Greece, 1952

Chryssoula Demagou is an Athens-based painter whose work explores the body as a site of memory, psychological tension, and interpersonal transformation. Working through a distinctive figurative language that combines elements of Expressionism, Narrative Surrealism, and Art Brut, she constructs densely layered compositions where human figures, animals, and symbolic micro-narratives coexist within the same pictorial space. Her paintings focus primarily on human relationships and the emotional structures that shape them, including intimacy, dependency, desire, vulnerability, and conflict. Distorted figures, fragmented interiors, and theatrical colour contrasts function as vehicles for narratives in which the boundaries between inner and outer worlds dissolve. Demagou studied Political Science at Panteion University in Athens and pursued long-term independent studies in visual art. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Athens and Thessaloniki since 2019, including exhibitions at Chili Art Gallery, Luminous Eye, Alma Mater, and Myro Gallery. Her work is held in private collections. Living and working in Athens, Demagou continues to develop a personal visual universe that merges symbolic figuration with psychologically charged storytelling.
