Colette Jackson is an artist living in rural Kilkenny . With an extensive
background in costume for film in both Ireland and America , she brings her experience
and passion for textiles to each piece. Starting from a fabric base ,the artist adds
delicate layers of paint and rich fabrics including silk, velvet, vintage materials and
handmade lace to create a luminous and textured palette . Jackson is motivated by
themes of nature and capturing light . This is evident in the use of hand-sewn metallic
thread and metallic paint crescendos, resulting in works that are responsive to their
surroundings. Jackson endeavours , throughout the process, to imbue her practice with
an allegorical quality , as influenced by the histories of textile materials and her studies
of the natural world around her .
