China, 1992

Cynthia Zhang (b. 1992, Hubei, China) grounds her practice in acute perception of nature, drawing upon the Eastern philosophical concept of "the unity of heaven and humanity", while integrating meditative experience with biological observation. She advocates the principle of "no-self, all things are interconnected" — entering a state of "non-self" through pre-creative meditation, establishing profound connections with all beings. The vital energy flowing through darkness is transformed into dynamic, abstract life forms upon her canvas: ocean waves, mountain rocks, sun and moon, stars — a practice of healing through creation and meditation. She is captivated by a beauty that is "serene and soft yet resilient with powerful vitality in darkness." Operatic colors burst forth from obscurity; vigorous life forms evolve within a chaotic cosmos, weaving romantic narratives of all living creatures, as if spirits of life were recounting their own stories. Eastern mysticism and Western abstraction resonate here, awakening in the viewer pure and fervent emotional instincts, love for all life, and contemplation of life's essential nature. A childhood passion for nature deepened during a three-month convalescence — daily meditation amid forests and tides unexpectedly restored her health. This experience affirmed her creed: art is not representational depiction, but the breath of life itself. She regards painting as "the origin of life," and the artist as an eternal, pure explorer — a spiritual being. She hopes to guide more souls through the abstract wilderness to discover their own unextinguished glow. Exhibition "Vitality and Love": Cynthia Zhang creates in meditation, perceiving vast power from soft abysses, colors flowing slowly through darkness, vitality surging with the most defiant posture. Each work is conceived as a symbiotic organism: chaos and clarity, fear and hope, shadow and radiance interweave, gestating new forms of life. The exhibition explores the allure of vitality, the fragile yet intimate bonds between lives, and the power of art as healing — awakening in viewers emotional resonance with vitality and love. All seems illusion yet real, dream yet not dream.
