Dimitris Galanakis is an Athens-based visual artist whose practice focuses on painting and drawing through the meticulous stippling technique. Active in the visual arts since 1981, he has developed a distinctive monochromatic language shaped by long-term study, technical discipline, and sustained engagement with symbolic and figurative representation.
Drawing influence from classical Greek antiquity, East Asian philosophy, and Japanese and Chinese visual traditions, Galanakis creates works that merge realism with mythic and contemplative imagery. His compositions explore themes of transformation, psychological balance, inner discipline, and the relationship between humanity and the natural world.
His sustained engagement with stippling reflects a process grounded in patience, repetition, and concentrated observation. Through thousands of individual marks, his works develop dense tonal structures and symbolic environments that invite slow viewing and reflection.
Galanakis has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece since the 1980s, including exhibitions at the Museum of Electric Railways in Piraeus, Myrό Gallery in Thessaloniki, Chili Art Gallery in Athens, and the Japanese Festival Athens 2024. His works are held in private collections.
He lives and works in Athens, Greece.
