Italy, 1972

Valerio Michelucci was born in Livorno in 1972. His creative and expressive journey began at a very young age through theater and writing—the latter pursued relentlessly and channeled into weekly columns and short story collections (Belforte Cultura, Edizioni della Sera). Alongside these passions, Michelucci has developed a significant body of paintings and graphic works—working on both paper and fabric—culminating in his participation in the 2001 group exhibition "25+8 caratteri" at the Bottini dell’Olio in Livorno. Over the years, he has explored various new creative paths, frequently venturing into sculpture, interior design, and assemblage. His portfolio also includes theater set designs and public installations. His latest solo exhibition, "Santi, poeti, navigatori e farabutti" (Saints, Poets, Navigators, and Scoundrels), held at the Mondadori bookstore in Livorno in 2026, presented a diverse series of works centered on geographical maps. This collection is distinguished by the breadth of its approach to maps as a medium: torn and recomposed with results ranging from the figurative nature of his graphic-pictorial pieces to the more intimate expressiveness of his material-focused works. Currently, the artist is curated by Elena Zamperini. He dedicates his creative practice to this vibrant gestural research, exploring the potential paths of conceptual deconstruction and the physical transformation of geographical atlases.
