Poland,
Izabela Apananska lives and works in England. She was born in Poland, where graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.
The two-time laureate of scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National
Heritage of the Republic of Poland (2015, 2020).
In her painting, Apananska challenges traditional boundaries and binary divisions, dialectically juxtaposing images from diverse sources into heterogeneous meanings. Her subject matter is a journey through time, through the frontiers of the world inhabited by various specters, most often animalistic. Establishing a dialogue with cultural studies and folklore, she addresses both the primal nature of human existence and the shaping of human identity in a social and cultural context.
