I’m Leah Hewlett, born in 1978, and grew up in a small hamlet in the South West of England. I worked as a painter and decorator for many years prior to having a stroke in 2017. I have always been creative and used art, in various forms, as part of my rehabilitation. Working primarily in ink and pencil crayon, I am drawn to nature and feel compelled to paint and draw both animals and botanicals. I love the fluidity, movement, and freedom that alcohol inks offer, and my latest body of works are abstract florals from a pollinator’s perspective. With a love of ultraviolet, my studio became a temporary science lab whilst I established a means to incorporate this fascinating element into my art. My work aims to create awareness of the importance of pollinators, educate, and captivate, giving viewers the opportunity to look at things from multiple perspectives whilst seeing beauty and intrigue in them all. I have completed commissions for my collectors in both ink and pencil crayon and am thrilled that my work can continue to bring enjoyment to others.
