Italy, 1963

Lu D’Aleo is an Italian artist whose pictorial research explores the relationship between matter, energy, and the interconnection between the living world and the cosmic dimension. Her practice does not emerge as a recent development, but as a re-emergence. Painting, for her, is a form of reclaiming an original language—present since childhood and long kept in a latent state. After an extensive professional experience in international communication, working as a press officer at the FAO – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, she gradually moved away from verbal language to embrace an artistic practice grounded in material and gesture. In this transition, painting arises as the only language capable of conveying an unmediated truth. This shift does not represent a rupture, but a transformation: the perspective developed in an international context now translates into a visual research that investigates the relationships between nature, human responsibility, and vital energy. Her work is characterized by a physical and direct approach to the surface, employing mixed media, layering, incisions, and manual interventions that make each piece an open process. Her works are structured as a system of interconnected nuclei—cosmic, energetic, natural, and generative—forming a coherent body of research in which the principle of the One and the Whole becomes a visual structure. Despite a relatively recent painting trajectory, her work stands out for its intensity of development and strong internal coherence, presenting itself as an evolving research practice.
