Maria Koval
Artist living and working in Paris
Koval’s practice is informed by cinematic structure, unfolding as a sequence of shifting scenes, devoid of a clear storyline rooted in lived experience.
Working with Zecchi pigments, charcoal and water, Koval constructs a tactile world of raw surfaces and breathing materials.
Canvases remain unstretched, leaving them alive and breathing; works on paper are not placed under glass, emphasizing immediacy—decisions that heighten a sense of proximity.
The combinations and interactions make the work minimalist in its form and profound in its content.
