France, 1960
Marie-Hélène Allemandou is a French abstract painter living between Paris and Rome. Trained as an engineer, she has always been drawn to art, which led her to pursue evening classes at the Beaux-Arts alongside her professional career, later deepening her practice through further artistic training. This dual background blending technical rigour with creative sensibility, forms the foundation of a distinctive and confident body of work.
At the heart of her work lies a fascination with texture and materiality. Drawing on printmaking techniques and an instinctive use of whatever materials. She transforms her canvases into layered surfaces where matter itself becomes the narrator. Each painting tells a story sometimes intimate, sometimes political always guided by a strong tactile sensibility that makes her work immediately recognizable.
Her paintings are not merely aesthetic objects: they are acts of engagement. Whether addressing ecological concerns or broader social issues, she uses abstraction as a vehicle for meaning, inviting the viewer to slow down, to feel, and to question the world around them.
Her work has been shown in numerous collective and solo exhibitions. In Paris, she has participated in major events including Art Capital, the Salon d'Automne, and the Salon des Artistes Français. Her solo exhibitions have been held primarily in Provence.
Rooted between two great European capitals, Marie-Hélène Allemandou leaves on every canvas an immediate presence that of a hand, a gesture, a material that speaks.
