India, 1968
I am Parameswaran Kolathazha, widely known by my artistic signature “Ayyan.” I am a multidisciplinary visual artist and advertising professional based in Dubai, originally from Kannur, Kerala, India. I earned my diploma in Fine Arts from the Brushman’s School of Art in 1990, which laid the foundation for my journey in both art and design.
Over the past 25+ years, I have built my career as an illustrator, graphic designer, and Art Director, working with leading global advertising networks such as FP7McCann and MCN MENAT. My professional experience has shaped my approach to visual storytelling, combining strong conceptual thinking with artistic expression.
As an artist, my work is rooted in abstract and impressionistic styles, often using bold, vibrant primary colors—especially reds, greens, and yellows—to create emotionally expressive compositions. My practice is deeply connected to social impact, and I consistently explore themes such as environmental conservation, child labor, women’s resilience, and breast cancer awareness.
Throughout my journey, I have actively engaged with the community through art. In 1998, during the Dubai Shopping Festival, I conducted live painting sessions on Al Rigga Street, connecting directly with the public. In 2003, I collaborated with Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Estée Lauder to create a series of paintings dedicated to breast cancer awareness, donating all proceeds to research initiatives. In 2010, I conceptualized and executed an exhibition for World Environment Day in collaboration with Dubai Municipality, using entirely recycled materials—an initiative that received recognition from environmental authorities including UNEP.
Beyond visual art, I am also passionate about performing arts and cultural preservation. I have performed lead roles in theatre, mastered the traditional art of Kathakali makeup, and directed international cultural exchange programs, including initiatives in Baku, Azerbaijan. These experiences reflect my commitment to bridging cultures through artistic expression.
Over the years, my work has been recognized across regional arts and media platforms, and I have received industry accolades including a Dubai Lynx Bronze Award. I continue to use my art as a medium for storytelling, advocacy, and meaningful cultural dialogue.
