Bolivia, 1964

My name is Sidney Edwin Calderón Calderón, and I was born on June 25, 1964, in the city of Potosí, Bolivia. From an early age, I developed a deep interest in art and the beauty of the world around me. I graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts “Hernando Siles” in La Paz, the capital of Bolivia, specializing in painting. In 1988, I moved to Italy, where I studied leather design and immersed myself in the rich European cultural environment. This period played an important role in shaping my artistic style and worldview. At the end of 2006, I arrived in Bulgaria—a country that captivated me with its nature and spirituality, and where I found my second home. Since then, I have been living and creating here. From the very beginning of my artistic journey, I have been deeply influenced by the mythological and folkloric traditions of my people, as well as the ancient cultures of Latin America. In my work, I strive to explore the beauty of nature by intertwining it with the timeless energy of ancient legends and the divine spark that leads to spiritual freedom. My artworks carry a spiritual light that brings old legends back to life. A special place in my work is devoted to the depiction of animals—horses, eagles, lions, and wolves. To me, they are symbols of strength, freedom, and primal energy. I believe that through their symbolism, the connection between human beings and nature is revealed, as well as the possibility of transforming this energy into spiritual power. I have developed my own artistic technique, using bird feathers as a base on which I paint images and symbols. The eagle feather, for me, is a sacred sign—a symbol of protection, success, and connection with higher forces. Inspired by ancient beliefs that the eagle flies closest to the Sun and the supreme being, I incorporate this symbolism into my works. At the same time, I create artworks on leather and velvet, developing original techniques that expand the expressive possibilities of these materials and achieve greater depth and visual impact. In the field of landscape and portrait painting, I see myself as a messenger of light. My travels to various countries—Bolivia, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba, Spain, and Italy—have had a strong influence on my artistic development. Each place carries its own spirit and mysticism, which I strive to express through color, form, and composition. Dance has also had a strong influence on my art. In many of my works, I seek to capture movement, rhythm, and harmony, glorifying feminine beauty in its dynamism and expressive power. Over the years, I have held exhibitions on three continents, and my works are part of private collections in Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela, the United States, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Bulgaria. Between 1988 and 2006, I lived and worked in Italy, where I developed a significant part of my artistic path. Later, inspired by the beauty of Bulgaria, I moved my studio to Sofia, where I continue to live and create. I believe that art is a mission—to bring light, beauty, and inspiration. Through color and form, I strive to open a path toward virtue, harmony, and reverence for nature, turning each of my works into an expression of the joy of life.
