Marla was made in 2018 and is part of a collection called The Light, the Dark and Everything in between. It is a compilation of abstract artworks created in a period of healing.
Because they are painted without previous planning or idea, after each canvas is completed, I can give it (most of the time) a meaning and a name.
Marla for me, seems as a mirror into how the energy that forms the matter comes into shape, like a seed sprouting, and spiraling out of the darkness of the ground, supported by and seeking the light above. It sprouts itself into a miriad of shapes that forms our eartlhy existence.
I never questioned the name Marla, it was just a name I received at the time, and today, 2026, I searched to know more about the name, and it is a name that comes from Mary Magdalene, or the beloved, drop of sea. Quite fitting for the painting in the end, and its also a reflection of a greater destructive femine energy that were about to come forth in our world.
