Stephen E Wise is a surreal watercolourist and resides in the High Peak of Derbyshire. He is a self-taught artist which has allowed him to explore his inner self. There is no rhyme nor reason as to how Stephen’s works are created, the simple fact is that what you see is what you get. He just does whatever comes into his mind at the time. This gives him great flexibility in the way that he conceives them. This communicative instinct means that his paintings convey as much to the youngest child as to the most experienced critic. Stephen’s style is hard to pinpoint, and it is difficult to associate his work with any genre. Indeed, this pure, almost childlike, way of thinking can be seen in evidence throughout his portfolio, and is the hallmark which sets him apart from many of his contemporaries. The difference with him is that the components originate in his own visionary observations, and it is this imaginative methodology that makes his art form so unique. In Stephen’s works, he is looking to capture and stimulate the viewers imagination by pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with watercolours.
