T. Markvart is a Canadian artist living in the Georgian Bay region of Ontario. Her work moves between abstract realism and still life to illuminate the mysteries of the heart and mind. Drawing firstly on the visual language of the subconscious, her work in then further shaped by her interests in symbols, psychology, and philosophy. Markvart's painterly signature is defined by her choice to work in acrylic ink on birch panels, intentionally allowing the wood grain to emerge through the medium in surprising ways. She studied Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, before earning a Masters and Doctorate in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo, Ontario. Her artistic lineage is rooted in her Dutch and Czech heritage.
