Arata Nakamura is a Japanese artist based in Yokohama and a representative of the new Japanese avant-garde. Working at the intersection of art, music, and design, his practice is deeply influenced by punk culture and the logic of musical sampling. His works combine fragments of image, text, and found materials into layered compositions where ruptures and overlays remain visible. This collage-based language is both raw and precisely constructed, allowing past and present to coexist in shifting constellations. Nakamura’s work moves between analogue tactility and digital influence, resisting the polished surface of contemporary image culture. His compositions explore identity, memory, and fragmentation, creating open structures rather than fixed narratives. His work has been exhibited internationally.
