Daria Andrews is a Polish-born artist living and working in Tasmania. Her practice is primarily grounded in oil painting and expanded material processes, examining representations of the female body and the inward, psychological dimensions of transformation. Her work considers the body as a site of memory, mythology, vulnerability, and resilience, with particular attention to narratives articulated by women artists across history. Recent projects investigate the concept of the heroine’s journey as an alternative to traditional heroic narratives of conquest, focusing on cyclical, inward, and embodied forms of change. Andrews’ work draws on mythology, lived experience, and close observation, allowing conceptual concerns to emerge through sustained, process-based attention. Living on a farm in Northern Tasmania, Andrews’ practice is shaped by daily observation of landscape, animals, weather, and the material remnants of rural life. Long-term projects - including One Hundred Days Under the Tasmanian Sky, sculptural works incorporating bones, eggshells, and feathers - arise directly from this environment. These works emphasise attentiveness, repetition, and material presence, grounding psychological and mythic inquiry in direct engagement with place.
