Matthew Robert Shirfield (b. 2000) is a Maltese artist, researcher and educator based in Malta. He attained a first-class degree in his B.A. (Hons.) in Fine Arts with History of Art from the University of Malta in 2021 which he followed with an M.Phil. from Trinity College Dublin for which he was awarded a distinction in 2022. Shirfield is currently a PhD candidate at Trinity College Dublin for which he has been awarded a full scholarship through the TESS fund. Shirfield has assisted in numerous projects including the Malta Pavilion for the 2022 Venice Biennale, and he was one of the project managers for the 2023 Mdina Biennale. In 2024 he launched his first solo exhibition titled ‘The Dirge’ which was accompanied by a publication of the same title. Shirfield is also an independent researcher who has written and published several articles as well as academic papers pertaining to twentieth and twenty-first century art. Wallace Falzon dedicates significant time to both painting and sculpture. His paintings are characterized by bright primary colours and mixed media, while his sculptures, monochromatic and stylized, often take the form of anthropomorphic figures. He juxtaposes these two practices as a reflexive exploration of the world and his own journey of self-discovery through art. In recent years, Falzon has participated in several notable exhibitions and projects. In 2025, he took part in Landscapes, Seascapes and Imaginary – (E)scapes, a collective exhibition held at the Grandmaster’s Palace in Malta, and Tang Ping, a collective show at ArtHall Gallery in Gozo. The same year, he presented I See Colour, a solo exhibition at Gemelli Gallery in Malta. In 2024, he held the solo exhibition Distinctiveness at Gemelli Gallery, Malta. In 2023, Falzon created Hornet Tower, a sculptural installation erected on site at the University of Malta.
